  "Girls With Eating Disorders"  3-6-13
                                                             Reading Response

                          Before reading this article, I knew that many girls around the ages of 13-18 maybe younger or maybe even older. Have an eating disorder. Trying to fit in and having friends, but because of their weigh/size they dont have it all. So they make them self's lose weight. By becoming bulimic, through up, starving themselfs. Or having any other eating disorder. When you think your not skinny enough like other girls, pretty enough like other girls, dont get guys like other girls you take/ make decisions that maybe not be the best, but you think they are. You change everything about you because you think you are the best like everyone else, either you or people make you feel that way.

                      While reading this article i found out that "Essential fatty acid status is altered in eating disorders that result in weight loss". Does this mean that its the same? Or is it just another eating disorder. When you gain weight it because your body is not getting rid of all the junk food, all the bad stuff that your body hasn't disgusted. Even if you look skinny in the outside, it doesn't mean that you are skinny in the inside too. While reading this article, I found out that when girls first start their eating disorder they have a mass of 15k in their body, after they have started with their eating disorder they have a mass of 19k. Yes they look skinny, but their health isnt as near as that. They are in risk of every sickness on the charts.A normal girl has to have 3 different kinds of fatty levels, fat levels are needed in the body, they arent as bad as everyone think. We need them to be healthy, even if we dont want them, even the healthiest people have them. Cause our body needs to sweat it needs to get rid of them.

             It takes time for girls with eating disorders, to get their health, their eating ways, their eating system back to normal. They wont be able to go back to normal in days, or hours, after there body has been use to being bulimic for months, years. Its going to be hard coming out anf telling someone you have an eating disorder, but you need to come out, so that they can help you. That they can be with you every step of the way on getting better. You wont be able to do it all alone. You`ll need everyones help. Your doctors, that will be putting you back in a health diet. Your family, that will support you emotionally. The doctors will need to tell you what kind of eating disorder you have. Cause their are more than one eating disorder in the world. Eating disorders are now more commonly. Their are anorexia nervos, bulimic nervos and simply bulimic, you need to treat each different one carefully, cause their not all the same. 

 

         Many girls do it every day, why? Cause they want to be perfect. But no one in the world is perfect, we can try. Choices are always the hardest. You do it for a wrong reason, your harming your self. Is your health really not important to you that, you dont care about it. Many girls risk their life just to try to fit in.

                           Suicide Prevention by Melinda Smith, M.A., Jeanne Segal, Ph.D., and Lawrence Robinson

                    After reading an article about suicide, I learned that, many of those people dont want to end their life,  they just want to stop the pain that they get caused.  Suicide is a very strong topic to talk about. Many people take their life's everyday. They stop connection with the outside world, they forget about everyone else. Sometimes people dont show their depression, they dont show any side of suicide thoughts. On the other hand sometimes they show all the signs, but we just are too stupid to notice them. It doesn't matter if someone says joking about how he tried suicide,  maybe he had a reason to bring it up. if he brought it up its because he has some connection to it. People that have tried to commit suicide are scared to go out and look for help. Why? Because people judge, people talk, word spreads.  Their scared of how they might be treated after telling the truth. Even if maybe you never tried or thought about it, bringing it up will worry lots of people, it could get the wrong attention of people, but it could get the right one also. 

         Their are ways of stopping suicide. Their is hope and saving for everyone. The best way for people to be helped, is first by admitting they have a problem.  By coming out of their shelter and telling someone. Letting them know what everything will be okay. That no one is here to judge, no one is here to tell them what they did is wrong. That they are in a safe environment, that they will get the help that need. People give forgivnesses. Their are second chances in life for a reason. You arent a freak or someone with needed needs. Talking to the person in a nice way, not judging way. Being a friend instead of a doctor. Being your self around that person, not being fake. Making sure the parents know too. Dont keep it a secret. Tell his parents, so that they can tell their doctors and get treated with medication, or therapy. 

    Make a back plan for any kind of emergency. Know What can set a person off. Be an protective friend. Make sure he/she knows you have their back. Making good changes in their daily routines. Make time for talking about how their day was, how was school? Do you wanna talk about anything? Is something bugging you. Just dont approach them like your demanding answers, and good ones. Make them feel loved every second of the day. It wont be easy for you and it wont be easier for them. But you have to try and help them be the person they use to be. Its never to late to change things, and make them go back to the way they were before. Dont hit them with cheesy lines and really happy lines. Cause nothing is ever 100% true. Nothing ever goes as its planned. If theirs disappointment on the way, they have to be prepared. 

                       Suicide one of the hardest topics to ever talk about. For a person having suicide thoughts and for a person knowing someone really close to them, knowing that in a ny second they could snap, and they could be gone. I cried reading this, even though it only had facts. It didnt have any warm touching stories. This a problem what is very well known in the U.S.A. If we see something we should say something. Every moment counts, if were talking about a life that is on the line.

Reading Response                                    "It Happened to Nancy"                                      2.13.13


                        After reading the diary of an unknown teenager ("It Happened to Nancy"), It really got me to realize that in this world their are consequess  for everything you do. Its all bout "Nancy", a regular girl that goes to school who has problems of her own; her parents are divorced, she lives with her mom while her dad lives in Arizona. The whole book is written by her. One day while at a concert with some of her friends, their was a huge fight. She couldnt find her friends any where, she starts not being able to breath, she meets a guy named Collin who saves her from the crowed. Collin charmed her immediately. Soon her and Collin start to hang out. Collin tells her he is a college student. Nancy is only 14 which means he has to be atleast 4 or 5 years older than her. She soons falls in love with Collin. They are like irresistible, in Nancys point of view They talk and have "Dates" They hang out during school hours and every time Collin wants to . One day weeks into their " relationship", Nancys mom takes a trip because of her job. Nancy thinks its a good/great idea to invite Collin over to her house. Collin ends up rapping her during their date or well more after they finish their date, when he was supposed to leave but he ended up rapping Nancy. Nancy doesnt want to agree with the fact that her "knight in shining amour " raped her. Weeks have passed bye and Nancy has looked for Collin everywhere. At the School he told her he studied at. It turns out that he did not ever study their, they have no idea who "Collin" is. Nancy starts to feel sick very sick. Weak not being able to do anything, tiring easily and fast. Her mother worry takes her to the hospital. she soon finds out that she has HIV/Aids. She doesnt tell her best friends. She than decideds she wants Collin to pay for what he did. She than goes to Arizona to live with her dad. She starts a whole new life with her dad. Wanting to forget that she has HIV/Aids. The whole book is about Nancy struggle with HIV/Aids and her wanting her favorite author to publish her book for other girls to know what she has gone through so that more girls dont go what she went though. Sadly she doesnt have a happy ending.
               While reading this article I wondered, Why didnt Nancy tell anyone sooner. If she was feeling sick; weak and just sicky. why didnt she. She would have to tell someone about What collin did to her. She is supposed to trust her mom and tell her everything that was going on. She Told her mom too late. Maybe, just maybe if she would have gone to the hospital or to the doctors early their could have been something that would have helped Nancy. Their could have been treatments to help her stay alive or even maybe remove it. Maybe not remove it, but have it under control. She should have not kept quite. She could have hope in life. She went through pain everyday because she stayed quite.
           On the other hand the virus was already in her. In her body growing everyday, killing her little by little. Killing the person she was. The Virus brought her closer to her family. To her parents who were divorced. She bonded with her dad who lives in Arizona. She went to live with him for a while. The virus was killing her so she wanted to be with her dad too, cause she has lived with her mom. Not saying that the HIV was a good thing. Cause it wasnt, she just learned a life lesson. It cost her life, but she set an example to many girls out their and mostly cause of what she did with her diary. She published it so many girls like how she was, dont go throw what she went through.
            Life lessons dont always leave you time to correct your past. Some mistakes and lessons have to cost you something bigger than money, appearance, popularity, it cost you the most important thing of all, life. The best gift anyone could have is taken away in what looks like seconds. Nancy made every second of her life of what she had left worth it. She learned a lesson and became an role model to many girls out their like me.

                       Abortion something that has America, and probably the whole world argues against. Killing lifes a crime or not? After reading True Extremist On Abortion by Tom Trinko, I found out that President Obama supported abortion. More than half of America do also. Not many people knew about the law. Some people did  but didnt know clearly about how the law was made, what were the terms of the law, conditions, and all of the little details. Presidents have talked about the issue. States have put up their own laws about what their opinion is. They have put what is aloud and what isnt. What they have to be (Age) to get one. How far along they have to be. Is abortion supported by?  Are We well aware of this? Or do we just think we are.

           In the Article The True Extremist on abortion by Tom Trinko,  it says President Bill Clinton and President Barack Obama. Mr. Obama supported the idea of abortion. "Is a good thing, most Americans who support abortion think that it is, under certain circumstances, an unfortunate necessity" said Mr.President Obama. Cause of President of Obama many people have started to support it. One person does make a huge impact on many of other people. On the other hand, President Bill Clinton didnt, President Clinton wanted to keep the whole "Abortion " Situation out of peoples and publics point of view. Back in those days the congress had banned Abortion just because of one person. Laws were made cause of that, that to get an abortion you needed your parents yes. You had to be a certain age. People listen to each other and take action.

          I asked myself a question while reading the article. Did the presidents have a good reason to support it and to not support it. President Obama apposed a bill/ law in Illinois  about 3 times. In the article it says "Obama voted three times against a bill, identical to the Born Alive Infant Protection Act supported at a federal level by ardent pro-aborts, that would require medical care for a baby who survives an abortion." In the article it says that Barack Obama never said he was against it. If he was, why would he? Did He or one of his family members ever get an abortion. Thats why he support it. Did he think that maybe some babies were mistakes? In the article it says that " Obama appears to be trying to justify the murder through inattention of a born human being because the mother wanted to kill the child". Maybe he just had a big heart? Or maybe he wanted people to live life the way they wanted to and planned to.

          Sometimes you get filled with what seems is right but is wrong. Your mind tricks you it tricks you into thinking things are fine but their not, nothing is right. You get tricked by people who are also being tricked. Abortion...a hard subject, for everyone to talk about and agree with. No one will ever probably agree if its right or wrong, cause their is no correct answer.

                                       How does this text address the points of view (perspectives) of other groups,                     especially those who usually don’t get to tell their side?

                     In the book the Hunted by P.C. Cast and Kristine Cast, its all about a girl named Zoey, who attends a school for vampire fledglings with special powers. Zoey and her friends must stop Neferet an evil force that is growing and has taken over the school. Zoey and her friends must use their gifts from Nyx their goddess  to help destroy Neferet. Zoey has to also chose between fixing her ex relationship or to take a chance  with Stark a boy who died in her arms who, out of no where comes back to life. But doesn't go back to being the person who he was, he has been charmed into Nerfert ways. Zoey has to also be careful with what she does, cause her sick grandmother could pay the consequences. She has to also make sure that the humans, her old friends and family and everyone else doesn't get hurt or killed by Nerfert. Zoey will have to trust her enemies and watch her friends turn into the enemies. 

                     In the book the Hunted by P.C. Cast and Kristine Cast, I say that the person that usaully doesnt get to tell his point of view is Damien. Zoey protector. He has fallen in love with Aphrodite, who has forcelly imprinted with a another vampire. In the book he doesn't get mad about the whole situation, he is very supported. He says its all for saving a life.  We dont really see what he really is feeling towards the whole problem. We dont see his ideas, thoughts about. We also dont really see him talking about the whole problem to anyone, expressing his feelings to anyone. He is like the character that keeps everything to himself. The quite one that mostly doesnt have a saying or a comment or even a thought against it. He just goes with the flow, like he is scared his opinion doesn't count, or it just simply wont be heard. 

                       On the other hand, I think that Erik, Zoey ex boyfriend is the one that usually doesn't get to tell his point of view . He and Zoey have gone through so much problems and drama, we dont hear or find out the real feelings he is going through. when Zoey cheated on him. The reaction he had when he found out that Zoey slept with someone else. What he was thinking when he was leaving the school, to go do what he was always meant to do. Why did he leave right after zoey cheated on  him? Was Zoey a push factor or a pull factor? In my opinion Zoey just helped make his dissuasion of leaving, maybe he didnt want to leave cause the only thing keeping him at the school was Zoey. Now that zoey and him were no longer together, he felt that he had nothing to keep him at the school. I wanted to know what he felt when he asked Zoey to get back together. When did he decide to forgive Zoey and why did he do that. What was his thoughts about returning with zoey and to the school. Did anyone help him finally decide what he wanted to do?

 in                    In My opinion both this characters would be a perfect fit to the whole point of view question. They both have such great communication to the main character Zoey. They both have so much do with Zoey, they are a huge part of her life. They both have made a big difference in everyone that has been hurt, or is trying to protecting everyone else. They both have a job to protect Zoey no matter what. Erik as Zoey boyfriend and Damien as Zoey Protector. 

                  In Conclusion Hunted by P.C. Cast and Kristine Cast is a book that keeps everyone wondering, who is thinking what and why. It gives readers chills while they read deeper into the book, figure out secrets and thr truth behind everyone.

                                Who has “power” in your text? How does that power get shown?
                         In the book "Bad girls dont die" by Katie Alender, its about  a girl name  Alexis, she use to have friends and be a normal teen, but when her best friend moved  she isn't the same person anymore. She isnt very social anymore. Shes the opposite of normal. She doesn't get along with a lot of people. Her only truly friend is her sister, but her sister Kasey starts to act different each day. Her other only real friend is Carter, as boy that makes Alexis feel safe, comfortable. Alexis has to find out whats wrong with her sister, Kasey who is acting weird and weirder everyday. Alexis cant do this on her own, she needs the help from someone she doesn't really get along. She will have to put her differences aside to save her sister and figure out what is happening to her sister. Alexis is up to face something she never has witness before. She will make new friendships along the way and even a new relationship, that is if she makes it out alive.
                       In the Book "Bad Girls Dont Die" by Katie Alender, I say that Alexis has the power. She is the one that keeps looking in deeper to find out what is happening. She is the one that looks for answers and questions. She knows what to do and what not to do. She plans what she is going to do, she does what she wants without asking anyone else. Shes being the responsible one. Alexis doesn't just think of herself and her sister first, she also thinks of others before her. She even thinks about some of the people she doesn't like, and some that had made her life a nightmare. The power gets shown because she isn't afraid to confront this thing. She isn't afraid to look for answers and to unreveal the truth behind everyone's past. She plays with "Her" Game. She knows how to control her thoughts and emotions. How to talk people into telling her what she wants to know without her telling them what shes looking for.She has the brain, the heart, and the sneakiness of a mice.
                   On the other hand I also think that Megan, the friend of Alexis, or well the person helping Alexis with the whole situation, could also be the one that has the power in the text. She is one of the victims that "Her" is planning to go after. She is experiencing what it really feels like. She is a big part of the persons history, she has a big part in all of this. Also in Alexis life, even if its just as friends or just as helping her. Megan knows who to handle this kind of problems and situations , she has known to solve this problems for years, its one of her favorite things to do. Also this inst just about saving Kasey, she also wants to find out the truth about her history. Its her chance to unsolve her life also, what really did happened to her, to her mother, why did it happened. Was it "Her" fault also? Megan gets a win win out of this situation.
                  If I was in both Megan and Alexis situation, I would both want to save my sister from that and learn the truth about my life and my past. Either way, what will always come first is saving the lifes of others, making sure that this doesn't get out to anyone or anymore people that aren't involve in this, because it will just make people want to interfere and stop what your doing. Your doing this because you have to not because you want to. People life's depend on this. Its not just a game you can restart if you lose. You just have one chance to make it right.
              In conclusion "Bad girls dont die" can be seen from many peoples point of views. Many people (Characters) could be the power in the text. It all depends in what way we see it in.What reason you think is the most important and why you think that.Its a book that will keep you wondering till the end. Every move they make will scare you.It will test your knowledge in every-way  possible.

                          Whose perspective is missing in this text? What would it be like if we put it back?
                             After reading the book "I know what you did last Summer" By Lois Duncan It made me realize that we all keep secrets, not because were embarrassed of them, but because we are scared of the consequences they might bring to us. The book "I know what you did Last Summer" is all about 4 friends hiding a terrible secret. All of them trying to move on with their life's and forget about the past. Them trying to be happy again. This book is almost all in Julie, one of the main characters point of view. She is trying to live the town to forget about everything that has happened. After Julie gets a threatening letter "I know what you did last summer"  she tries to reunite the gang to find out who knows about their secret.The whole book is almost all in Julie perspective. Julie trying to be positive about the whole situation, but at the same time keeping it under cover, from everyone that doesn't know. A person perspective that is missing in the book is the person that is sending the threat, other known as Collingsworth Wilson, the victim of their accident half brother.We never got to know how he felt how he felt about getting revenge on them. 
                        While reading "I know what you did last Summer", I always wonder why didn't they at least give us the person threatening them thoughts, emotions, ideas. Even if they didn't revel to us who he was. I guess it was fair that they didn't tell us anything about the "Person Threatening" them because this just made us want to read to the very end. It made our brains think more and deeper into the book. It made us try to get in the head of the "Person Threatening them" and Julie, and the rest of the characters head. It keeps us wondering till the end, making sure we pick up the clues its giving us, not leaving out any of them. The author must have wanted us to fall into her tricks so she can lead us of and into thinking another thing. So when we finish the book we would be wrong in the person we thought was "The person threatening them". Every mistake we made in reading it lead us further and further away from the truth . Its where our imagination and opinion, our instincts and creativity take place and take over. 
                        While reading "I know What you did last Summer" I also asked myself another question, why was the book almost in all of Julie perspective? Did Julie have the biggest plot in the book, was Julie the one that was suppose to find out who the person was. Was she the one that was suppose to get the gang back together. Was Julie the key to everything, she was the person that was the one that pushes everyone to help and find the truth. In my opinion Julie was like the key to everything. She was the "The Person Threatening"  them most likely target because she was the one that did want to go back and help the person they killed. She was the one that wasn't the most strongest person to keep the secret. Julie was a person that have felt the most guilt out of all of them. The one that actually cared about the person. The one that didn't want to just leave and not do anything about it. She was the one that wanted the most to forget about all of that, but couldn't. 
                   In my opinion if I was Julie, and I was forced to keep that secret I would lose it. The guilt would just be eating me in the inside, it would be killing me from both the outside and the inside. I wouldn't be the same Person anymore. I had lived and watch a person die right in front of me, and what could I do noting?  Why? Because my friends didn't let me, they made me keep it a secret. They did this to me,so when we stopped talking it was like trying to forget about it and they were helping me for once about it.They wouldn't be a reminder of what happened that horrible night.
                  In conclusion, their could have been many ways that this story could have gone that would have made the book more interesting and that could have made us wonder more, and keep us thinking longer and deeper. Made the book more entertaining. Could have given us the exciting taste in the book. Different perspective could have given the book many leads. It could have taken the book in many different directions and different endings.
